Postgraduate students

​​​​​​Full-time postgraduate students are eligible to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship (HK$229,620 per year) during the normative study period. Outstanding PhD applicants, with a bachelor’s degree with First Class honors (or equivalent) obtained from a renowned university, are encouraged to apply for the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPF) and HKU Presidential Scholar Programme (HKU-PS). Each HKPF/HKPS holder will receive a package of up to around HK$439,500 (US$56,350) in the first year, and up to around HK$422,000 (US$54,110) in each of the subsequent years during the normative study period.

Post-doctoral researchers

Researchers holding a PhD and demonstrating a strong research track record, evidenced by publications, patents, and international innovation awards, will be nominated to compete for the RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme (JRFS) or the JC STEM Early Career Research Fellowship for Translation and Application (JC-ECRF). The JRFS aims to support early-career talent in developing their R&D careers in Hong Kong, while the JC-ECRF seeks to cultivate promising STEM postdoctoral researchers, enabling them to translate scientific research into practical industrial applications.

Summer Students

Undergraduate students in their penultimate year with a GPA equivalent to First Class Honours and a strong interest in research are encouraged to apply for HKU's Summer Research Programme. This 10-week program (June–August) offers rigorous research training, networking, and extracurricular activities for top students worldwide. Our laboratory has extensive experience hosting students, with many receiving conditional offers for the prestige HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship.
